National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) - Silver Award

Two more dates added to our calendar for the NNAS Silver Award are:
6/7th July and 5/6th October 2013.

This is a two day course based in the West Pennine Moors and includes training and assessment with a certifcate upon successful completion.

The learning outcome of this course is 'to be able to plan & follow routes in the countryside away from paths and tracks'. (Source NNAS handbook)

Skills taught on this course include:

  • Set a compass bearing from map to ground
  • Use a compass to follow bearings accurately across open ground over short legs
  • Use aiming off to reach a target on a linear feature
  • From an attack point use fine navigation to locate a target

National Navigation Award Scheme Bronze Award (NNAS)

The website is just going through some updating currently, but the dates for 2013 NNAS Bronze Award are as follows:
4/5th May, 23/24th May, 1/2 June, 4/5th July, 7/8th September, 26/27th September.

The Bronze Award is suitable for those wishing to learn about the principles of navigation and is the first stage on your navigation path.  It will equip you with the skills to navigate on lower terrain with discernible features.  The course is of a practical nature and thus walking equipment and boots are required.  All those attending should also bring enough food and drink for the day.

The two day course costs £90/person and each course requires a minimum of 2 people attending for the course to run.  Each day will run from 0900 - 1600hrs.
