Walking in Oberammergau

Today is the last day in Oberammergau and over the past week we were able to ski for a couple of days then took the opportunity to take some lovely walks in the area.
It is a fantastic area not only for cross country skiing but also as a walking venue.  With free travel on the guest card, issued if you are staying in one of the hotels, then you can make use of a different loipe or walk each day.
Yesterday we walked from Saulgrub up to the lake at Bad Bayersoien.  The group were treated to a well earned but unexpected coffee break on route before eating packed lunches on the lake shore, then a warming Gluwein in the lake house cafe complete with blazing wood burner.
Certainly an area for a great walking destination later in the year, watch this space!

Oberammergau

Well the snow lasted till around Thursday last week here in Oberammergau, but unfortunately then the loipes got closed as the snow was disappearing and just the compacted ice was left.  So the last 2 days last week saw us go over the border into Austria where the group really enjoyed some excellent conditions.
Unfortunately this weeks group arrived paralled with a very warm spell, so with spring like conditions we have done a couple of really nice walks around the valley and yesterday went into Austria for a days cross country skiing.  Today the group have a free day to explore, some are having a nice relaxing day in Garmisch and others are being adventurous and travelling to the palace of Neuschwanstein.

Cross country skiing Oberammergau

Here in Oberammergau, Bavaria for 3 weeks leading some cross country ski weeks for Exodus travels.  Last year I was an hour up the road with loads of snow but currently here things are a bit greener. Here's praying for some snow this weekend.  The area has approximately 300kms of ski loipes but only about 50 Kms is open at the minute and this afternoon with high temperatures and also some accompanying rain this may get reduced.

Cross country skiing Austria

Just been out in Seefeld for 4 days training getting the ski legs back . Did some classic and skating skiing, all good fun. We were out in Seefeld which is a superb resort with loads of tracks of all grades. In Feb I'll be leading 2 trips for Exodus Travel based in Oberammergau which is just outside Garmish and is another excellent area for cross country.
