Dolomites and winter trips.

Having returned from Corsica GR20, the past couple of weeks have been quite busy with outdoor work including mobile climbing walls and some archery.  Next week will see me leading for a week in the Dolomites and that will bring my season in Europe to a close with a view next to the winter.  
Should you be interested in snowshoeing I am intending to run a week in Bavaria towards the end of January 2104.  I am currently negotiating with hotels for availability and cost but the intention is to have a week in South Bavaria staying in a 4* hotel with meals included, and 5 days guided snowshoeing. The week will be suitable for beginners, intermediates and those who wish to venture out in the Alpine winter terrain to seek fun, excitement and to see some nature.

Pyrenees

Just returning home from my stint over in Bavaria then onto the French Pyrenees.  The weather was great in both and some excellent snow conditions.  My reason for travelling to the Pyrenees was to attend my International Mountain Leader (IML) winter assessment.  This was the successful completion of a number of years of training and consolidation and the winter assessment was the final phase.  You can find out more about the British Association of International Mountain Leaders by clicking this link.  Spring was certainly around in the Pyrenees over the past couple of days with some nice sunshine and warmer temperatures during the day, however the good news is there was still some snow forecast for this coming weekend.

Allgäu Alps

I have just had a week out in the Allgäu Alps, Bavaria on a recce for some future walking routes.  This is a very traditional, beautiful area of Bavaria and is great for outdoor activities.  There are plenty of walking routes to suit all abilities and even some Klettersteig routes.  Tuesday was the traditional bank holiday so pretty much everywhere is geschlossen (shut), so 3 of us took the day to take an uplift and do a route to take in the splendid views.  All week the weather was cracking with mild temperatures.  The cows had been brought down a few weeks before and in all the meadows the preparations for the ski season were in full swing.

On Wednesday we went over the border into Austria and I did a splendid ridge route over the Steinmandl.


The area is quite easy to reach, we flew into Munich and then it's approximately 2 hrs by car or you can fly into Memmingham and then it's approximately 1hr by car.  During the week we had the usual 'tick off's' including currywurst, apfelstrudel and Weiner schnitzel.
